Exterior Painting and Decorating in Broughton Astley

Exterior decorating for Broughton Astley homes, combining suitable preparation, localised repairs where appropriate and carefully selected coatings for masonry, doors, frames and other timber.

Speak to Gary About Your Exterior Project

Address the worn areas before repainting

If your exterior has peeling paint, weathered joinery or isolated areas of damage, those details need consideration before a new finish is applied. I assess the existing coatings and the underlying surfaces so the quotation reflects the preparation involved.

I provide exterior painting in Broughton Astley from my base in Earl Shilton. My wider decorating work in the village includes projects around Knighton Close, Dunton Road and Old Mill Road.

For other services at the same property, see my Broughton Astley decorating page.

Exterior timber with different levels of wear

Frames, doors and fascia boards are not always in the same condition, even on one elevation. Some sections may need routine sanding and repainting, while others have exposed timber or coatings that have lost their grip.

I prepare each area accordingly, removing loose material and using suitable primers and finishing products. The scope can include windows, doors, fascias, soffits and other exterior joinery where appropriate.

Repairing suitable localised damage

Where timber has deteriorated in a limited area, a repair may be possible before decorating. I use systems such as Repair Care and Timbabuild where they are suitable for the timber and extent of the defect.

This is assessed rather than assumed. If the damage is too extensive or the cause needs addressing first, I explain what that means for the project. Repainting alone is not treated as a repair for unsound timber.

Masonry and rendered surfaces

Suitable exterior walls can be cleaned, prepared and repainted using a compatible masonry coating. I check the existing surface for loose material, failing paint and appropriate minor defects before specifying the work.

The chosen system depends on the substrate and previous finish. Any signs that further investigation or repair is needed are discussed before painting proceeds.

Preparation can include scraping, sanding, filling cracks and surface defects, preparing exposed or failed timber, sealing or stabilising problem surfaces, and applying suitable primers and undercoats. Adjoining surfaces are protected before decorating.

Access for gables and higher areas

High sections and awkwardly positioned surfaces need suitable access for both preparation and painting. I assess this at the quotation stage rather than leaving it until the work starts.

Where scaffolding or a tower is required, I can help organise it. The quotation identifies any additional access cost unless it is expressly included. Work is also scheduled around suitable weather and product drying requirements.

Exterior painting questions

Can you assess high areas when quoting?

Yes. Access needs are part of the assessment. Some areas may require specialist access for closer inspection or for the work itself, which will be discussed with you.

Does damaged wood always need replacing?

No. Suitable localised defects may be repairable, but replacement can be the better option for more extensive deterioration. The condition determines the recommendation.

Can masonry and woodwork be included together?

Yes. They can form one project, with the preparation and coating system specified separately for each type of surface.
